Firefighters from Northbrook, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Glenview, and Deerfield responded to a house fire at 4085 Evergreen Lane in an unincorporated area off of Sanders Road by the I294 tollway. The call came in shortly after midnight (4/8/22) reporting smoke inside the residence and walls that were hot after the resident used the fireplace. Two occupants when outside with firefighters arrived but responding companies were notified by RED Center that a handicapped individual was unable to self evacuate. Northbrook Engine 10 reported smoke showing on arrival and the crew from Ambulance 10 got a wheelchair-bound resident out of the house.
There was visible fire reported on the exterior of the house which was extinguished by firefighters from Prospect Heights Engine 39. There are no hydrants in this sub division and a supply line was stretched from a hydrant at the entrance off of Sanders Road to Northbrook Squad 11, which then pumped in-line to Engine 10.

The Schiller Park Fire Department responded to a fire at the Horse Shoe Inn at 9639 Irving Park road before 4:00 this morning. The tavern is located a half block west of the fire station and arriving companies were met by thick smoke blowing across the street. Little fire was visible initially, but within minutes of the fire department’s arrival, flames were coming out of the front door. The fire was upgraded to a 2-11 bringing mutual aid from several neighboring departments in MABAS Division 20 including Franklin Park, Norwood Park, Leyden Township, Northlake, River Grove, Elmwood Park, Rosemont, and Stone Park.. Firefighters reportedly pulled a victim from the building with a gunshot wound to the head who was transported to the hospital by medics. The stubborn fire travelled through the older building requiring extensive overhaul and the alarm was elevated to a 3-11 shortly after 5AM bringing companies from Des Plaines, Melrose Park, Bensenville, and Park Ridge.
While this fire was active, the Maywood Fire Department, also in MABAS Division 20, requested a box alarm for a house fire in their town that occupied additional Division 20 companies.
A brief article can be found HERE and HERE.
Firegeezer.com has a thorough article on the fire HERE.
Steve Redick and Larry Shapiro both took in the fire and will have images to add later today.

Bill Friedrich has submitted photos of four recent deliveries to departments in Divisions 12, 13, and 19. It’s interesting to note that the first three of these new units are all painted black over red. Wheaton has had this color scheme for many years. St. Charles’ apparatus used to be white over lime green and they changed to black over red several years ago. Oak Brook Terrace has been white over red for many years, changing to black over red with this new engine.
More detail about the Spartan/Marion in Oak Brook Terrace

Last night the Central Stickney Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire at Frankie and Johnnie’s Roadhouse located at 5009 S. Central Avenue. First arriving companies were met with heavy fire at the rear of the building and requested a box alarm for additional companies. A successful attack kept the bulk of the fire at the rear of the building and prevented it from extending to an exposure less than fifteen feet away.
Among the departments that responded were Roberts Park with their new Pierce Arrow XT aluminum ladder and Bedford Park with their new Pierce Impel pumper. Other units on the scene included engines from Summit, McCook, Lyons, and Bridgeview; squads from Burbank and Oak Lawn; trucks from Bedford Park and Stickney; medic units from Bedford Park and Summit.
There is a small gallery with images from the scene including the apparatus HERE.

Karl Klotz provided images for the Northwest Homer FPD. They have two stations filled with Pierce apparatus, the newest of which was delivered this month.
Northwest Homer moved from MABAS Division 19 to Division 15 at the beginning of the year. Their rigs rotate running positions and between the two stations which is why they do not have numbers on the doors. This department is made up of a combination of paid, contract, and part-time personnel.

There have been several previous postings which referenced the IAFC Fire Rescue International Trade Show in Chicago several weeks ago. A gallery is available by scrolling to the bottom of the page HERE which fittingly shows many of the trucks as they were leaving McCormick Place and lining up to receive a few gallons of fuel so that they could make their way to a gas station. As with any trade show, the fuel is siphoned out of the tanks before they enter the convention center as a safety measure to reduce the hazards of fires and leaks.
Although the units featured in the gallery are a hodgepodge sampling of the display pieces, there are images of several local units which are better shots than what was available inside the convention center. These images include the Freightliner/Medtec MICU from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, the Pierce Impel quint from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago, the Spartan/Super Vac (SVI) HDR from Cherry Valley, the Pierce Velocity PUC tower ladder from South Holland, the custom Sutphen SP112 industrial tower ladder for the Exxon Mobile Joliet Refinery and the Spartan/Crimson rear mount aerial ladder for Chicago.
