Fundraiser for family of Orland firefighter

The SouthtownStar has an article about a fundraiser today:

The Orland Fire Protection District and an Orland Park restaurant will hold a fundraiser to benefit the family of a firefighter who recently died in a car crash.

From 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Firehouse Subs, 15892 S. LaGrange Road, will donate 15 percent of sales to the family of Wes Peak. The fire district also will be at the restaurant to collect donations.

Peak, 36, of Manteno, had been with the district for seven years. He was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sept. 7 while driving north on Interstate 57. Survivors include his wife and a young son.

Peak started his career with the fire service in Peotone and also worked for departments in Flossmoor, Monee and Westmont before joining Orland.

Peak was sworn in on Sept. 24, 2008, after completing a one-year probationary period with the fire district.
