Working fire in Chicago, 4-19-19

This from Eric Haak:

A windy day in Chicago on Friday (4/19/19) led to a primary power line coming down on top of garages in the 6200 block of West 64th St. The live wire ignited two garages and companies had to wait for power to be cut before going to work. The power was cut just as the roof began to get going and the fire was extinguished before it could extend to any other exposures. Engine 65 and 127 worked this incident because Engine 32 was committed on a prior incident.

Detached garage fire in Prospect Heights, 5-3-15

This from Larry Shapiro:

The Prospect Heights FD received multiple calls for a detached garage on fire at 240 E. Camp McDonald Road Sunday night (5/3/15). Flames could be seen from Station 9, less than a block away. The three-car, 1 1/2-story garage was fully-involved and was reported to have a 55-gallon drum of racing fuel and acetylene torches inside.

Engine 9 dropped two lines and Tanker 9 setup to nurse the engine. Engine 39 dropped a supply line to a hydrant approximately 1/3 of a mile away as Long Grove Tanker 55 arrived to continue nursing Engine 9. The bulk of the fire was knocked down quickly, and the other tankers were released from the staging area.

When I arrived the roof had collapsed and there was still some visible fire.

The Long Grove Fire Department received several calls this afternoon reporting a garage fire at 16202 Aptakisic in Prairie View. Initially, conflicting reports were given as to whether or not the garage was attached to the house or detached, and it was unclear if the fire had spread to any nearby buildings.  One caller suggested that the homeowner might have been trapped inside the garage.

There were no fire hydrants on the north side of Aptakisic Road where the fire broke out so Long Grove Squad 55 dropped 1,500 feet of 5" hose. This allowed them to assist with supplying Buffalo Grove Engine 26 the first engine on the scene which was working off of tank water. Larry Shapiro photo

Due to the proximity of their station, Buffalo Grove Engine 26 (217) was the first company on the scene. Larry Shapiro photo

Buffalo Grove Station 26 is located just over a mile from this address and when Engine 26 pulled out of their quarters they reported seeing a significant header. Units that responded to the scene include Long Grove Squad 55 and Tanker 55, Buffalo Grove Engine 26 and Quint 27, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Engine 51, Lake Zurich Engine 4, Libertyville Truck 461, Wheeling Engine 24, Countryside Ambulance 411, and a Barrington ambulance in addition to chief officers from Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods.

During the late night storm on Sunday, Libertyville firefighters responded to a garage fire at 108 First Street around 11PM. Engines 461 & 463 arrived almost simultaneously since Engine 463 was already on the road. They found a well-involved detached garage with two vehicles inside. Countryside and Mundelein responded on the working fire along with several change companies to cover Libertyville stations. The fire was contained to the garage although the house plus one neighbor’s house sustained heat damage. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
