I arrived at the 5-11 Alarm fire almost two hours into it. The warehouse buildings had already collapsed and though there was still quite a bit of smoke, the bulk of the fire had been knocked down already. Nevertheless, here is what it looked like from that point on.

Here are some images from the Chicago Fire Department’s Still & Box on Monday afternoon (3/18). The fire was in a 3-story, 75 x 100, ordinary building at the corner of Lake and Lockwood. Companies went defensive about a half hour in and two additional truck companies were requested. The fire was struck out in just under 2 hours.

This from Steve Redick:
Took this in about 0515 Thursday. Very tough to get any decent images, the L tracks and heavy smoke covered the front. The one view of the rear and upwind was decent but badly arcing wires kept me from getting too close. It was a plating company so haz mat protocols were in place with some local evacuations. Nice to see the new TL5 working. TL10 had an old HME spare and operated very sparingly. All the images can be seen here:Steve

I took some shots at the fire on Lake Street this morning. 3-11 Alarm + Level 1 Hazmat for a fire in a nickel plating company. Numerous engines were lead out, Squad 1, TL 5, TL 10 all had aerial master streams up.

Fire in an auto repair shop, looked kinda doubtful for a few minutes but was under control in short order. This location is directly across the street from the scene of a fire fatal to 2 members in 1972. More images can be seen here:Steve

Chicago firefighters battled fire in a commercial building at 4749 W. Lake Street just after midnight Monday (2/12/18). The fire was discovered by Truck 29 while returning to quarters from a Still & Box Alarm fire. Flames had already engulfed the entire building and the alarm was eventually elevated to a 2-11. The building collapsed shortly after companies went to work. Two multi-versals along with elevated master streams from Tower Ladder 5, Tower Ladder 14, Squad 2A and Truck 29 were deployed. One member from the 5-11 Club Support Service Unit was injured after loosing his balance on a patch of ice and was transported to a hospital.
