Chicago Fire Department news

Excerpts from wgntv.com:

Several firefighters are hospitalized after a Chicago FD Engine 101 crashed into the side of a home on the city’s South Side just before 10 p.m. Monday at the intersection of 77th Street and Damen Avenue in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The fire engine was traveling south of Damen when the driver lost control. The two people inside the home at the time of the crash were uninjured. However, they are now displaced.

Five firefighters were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

Police have not said what caused the driver to lose control of the truck.

Companies from Chicago’s 6th Battalion responded to the report of a house fire just before dawn on Saturday, November 23rd at 6545 S Oakley.  Per PD at the scene, the fire was already well advanced in the rear of the structure. Police officers were met with the report of someone trapped inside but could not make entry due to heavy smoke conditions.  A victim was eventually located and transported, succumbing to his injuries later that day.

Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-12-19

This from Eric Haak:

Chicago Still & Box Alarm: The 19th Battalion landed with this job a little after 10 this morning (1/12). Images here were taken about 40 minutes in. Companies worked throughout a steady snowfall. After initial interior efforts, companies went defensive. Truck 20 was originally in front of the building but was moved in order to bring in Tower Ladder 39 to fight the remaining fire in the cockloft.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 12-26-17 (more)

This from Steve Redick:

Took in this job at 6119 S Wolcott from an immense distance away and arrived just as the master streams were setting up. Very cold, single digits. Hoarder conditions forced an early shift to defensive mode. TL39 used some creative apparatus placement to get their master stream in service. Here’s a few images, not really spectacular but some good gritty firefighting images. All the images and a video can be seen here:

Happy new year to all.

Chicago working fire, 7-5-14

This from Eric Haak:

Took in this working fire on the 6100 block of South Washtenaw on Saturday.  I arrived less than 10 minutes in and the fire was already well under control.  I included a close up of the spare tower ladder that TL39 was running with.  Over the weekend, they were running out of spare tower ladders and both TL34 and TL54 were running as trucks at one point or another.  As you can see, the body wear on these old E-One’s is very evident but it seems like they are in service more than the front line rigs.  It should also be noted that Squad 5 was running with the old air mask rig as their box.  Shop # G-487.  Engines on this were 88 and 101 with Truck 41 and Tower Ladder 39.
