For throwback Thursday, here is a picture of one of the Blue Island Fire Dept.’s three auxiliary stations built in the 1880’s. This one was in my neighborhood, on High St. on the east side of town. These stations lasted until about 1916 when the department went motorized and all three auxiliary stations were closed. This station was still around until the 1960’s when it was torn down to make way for a new house.

Hello,

This is Blue Island’s engine 2133, a 1960 ALF 1500/500. In 1984, it was involved in a traffic accident. It was sent to ALF to have a Century cab installed. It remained in service until 2007, when it was replaced by a 2007 HME. An amazing 47 years in service. Enjoy!

Hello,

This is Blue Island Truck 2104. It started as a 1951 ALF 85-foot Quint. In 1980, this was sent to ALF again in University Park to have a new Century cab installed. It was the first unit to have a white top, which is a Blue Island hallmark now. This was in service until 1997, when a new E-One tower was purchased, a remarkable 46 years of continuous service and durability. Enjoy!

Here are two pictures from the Blue Island Fire Department. The first is the former Engine 2123, it’s a 1987 Spartan/Darley 1500/500. The second is Blue Island’s Ford ambulance. Both pictures show the equipment carried on each rig. Please feel free to comment, I hope that you will enjoy.
