Down memory lane …

Another installment from Steve Redick:

Once again trolling through the archives I found some shots I took on February 15 1975. a 5-11 at 95 W Roosevelt in a big vacant warehouse. It was cold and snowy.Very overcast as well. The last photo with 19 and 42 was interesting. All the smoke was coming out of 42..they blew something in the engine with a loud boom and started smoking…eng 19 was going to hook up in their place. I wish I would have taken more shots but I had slow film and the lighting was very poor. If I had the gear I have now…….

Chicago FD Turret Wagon History (pt 18)

Another installment on the history of turret wagons in the Chicago Fire Department from Jack Connors. Images depict Big Mo as it was on two different chassis. It was assigned as 6-7-2 originally on a 1953 International 6×6 chassis which was painted black over red. This unit carried shop #G-248. It was later remounted onto 1957 GMC 6×6 chassis in the blue and white colors of the Civil Defense carrying shop #G-157 .

Images from Jack’s collection are featured from Ken Little and George Brown in addition to Jack’s own photos.

Chicago FD Turret Wagon History (pt10)

This from Bill Friedrich in response to the article HERE.

I am sending you another view looking down on the operations at this fire from my collection. Indeed CFD photos. If I recall this fire was on North Michigan Ave on a very cold day. Also visible are Engine 4 waiting to lead out. Truck 19’s Pirsch ladder doing battle. Ambulance 11 running with a Cadillac. I am also guessing that is Truck 3 in the midst of the battle.

Found this from my “old negative” pictures. Dec 1, 1998 the Pullman Factory fire, 6-7-1 working the rear. I believe the chief at the driver’s side rear of 6-7-1 is Garetti.

Chicago FD Turret Wagon history (pt1)

This from Steve Redick:

So I was talking with some fellow fire fans and we were discussing when we had seen 671 at work prior to it’s resurrection for the latest 5-11. I trolled through my archives and found these images..taken at a 5-11 & 2 Specials 2232 S Grove st. April 14 1989. This fire involved a huge amount of tires in the old Cuneo Press complex, and 1 of these buildings was used in the final fire in the movie backdraft. One shot shows a real rarity, 2 turret wagons working. LDH was in limited use at this fire … still kinda new to us. The next day was the famous art gallery 5-11 … what a coupla days this was!!!!
