The Gurnee Fire Department had a 2nd Alarm fire today at 36938 Kimberwick Lane, in Wadsworth. This is Gurnee’s unincorporated, non hydranted area. Jeff Rudolph made the fire and reports that it involved a large single family house. The fire started in the garage from a heat lamp and traveled up a wall into the attic.

Jeff has images posted to his Flickr site HERE which show more of the companies that were on-scene and the drafting operation for the tankers.

South Elgin 2nd Alarm 1-20-11

South Elgin had a house fire on Thursday at 10N917 Gale Street in Elgin Township (Kane County). The fire was apparently blamed on a bird’s nest which ignited and sent fire into the attic of the home. It was a 15-degree day that felt like 5 degrees with the wind.

Scott Peterson submitted several shots from the scene after the fire was brought under control.

From The Courier-News:

According to preliminary reports, firefighters were called to the home just after 9:30 a.m. by the home’s two occupants. Firefighters found fire in a wall and a deep-seated fire in the attic, with flames coming out of windows on both sides of the structure. Reports stated that the home actually had multiple attic units as a result of remodeling projects and the fire had spread among them.

The Courier-News has an article about the fire HERE.

Departments that responded to provide mutual aid included Elgin, Pingree Grove, Elburn, Bartlett, Hanover Park, and West Dundee.

Lake Zurich 2nd alarm fire

The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire around 1AM this morning at 1025 Old McHenry Road. This address is perhaps 100 yards from their #3 fire station at 1075 Old McHenry Road. The first company found heavy fire on the east side of the 2-story building. The alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm for additional manpower.  Later,  the fire was upgraded to a 2nd alarm for still more manpower to assist with the extensive overhaul that was required at this old house which had been remodeled multiple times. Securing a positive water supply was delayed slightly when the first hydrant the engine tried malfunctioned.
