Wheeling, Buffalo Grove, and Prospect Heights firefighters were dispatched for an oven fire at 485 W. Green Drive late Tuesday night, 9-23-25. It was unclear from the initial report whether or not the fire was contained to the oven of the one-story, single-family house. The first unit to arrive was Service Truck 24 with two personnel. They reported a fire and were advancing a line. The battalion chief had flames blowing out a side window and upgraded the response to a working fire plus additional ambulances because the whereabouts of the residents was not initially clear.

The flames were knocked down in short order while Buffalo Grove and Prospect Heights firefighters vented the roof. Mutual aid companies came from Northbrook, Glenview, Mt Prospect, Des Plaines, and Arlington Heights.

It should read service truck 43. With the switch from RED Center to Northwest Central Dispatch, Wheeling changed their numbers sometime ago. Regarding the term service truck, it is generally used to describe a vehicle that is not an aerial apparatus that is serving in the role of the normal aerial apparatus. There can be a wide variety in the capabilities of such apparatus. On a related note, ISO recognizes a service truck as a vehicle without an aerial device that carries the same complement of ground ladders, and portable equipment as a ladder truck.
