This from Daniel Hynd:
Addison Fire District recently purchased this 2023 Sutphen Monarch / SVI walk-in rescue previously owned by Elkhart, IN Fire Dept. This vehicle will be used for specialty teams. The rig is seen here at a fire apparatus show in Westmont.

Wanna make your rig sound cooler than it actually is? Call it a “skwaad”…..
Honest to gosh, this fire service is getting ridiculous.

DuPage County has 5 stand alone heavy rescue squads. Addison would be 6. Since this is going to replace trailers this makes sense. I think it could serve as a regional Division 12 asset not just an Addison asset. West Chicago, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, York Center and Westmont have dedicated squads. Glen side, Oak Brook, Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Bloomingdale all have rescue-pumpers

Moe, there was an Elkhart guy on another site who was part of all of this. He said the previous chief wanted this and sold it that it would be capable of engine company functions in the city. Well it got delivered and didn’t perform. That chief was fired for other reasons and the new chief felt that a tillered ladder would work better. Truck company functions more space and all the equipment from this fits on it. So that’s the jist..

The bigger question is why Elkhart sold it after spending big buck and being so happy to have it. See the SVI YouTube video. It seemed too big for Elkhart to me, I’m not from there and have a lot of respect for that department.

Anyone know why Elkhart got rid of this? New chief? POS?

Rumor is future plans to make it a full time company, but currently, when it’s done and ready to go, it is going to be at station one as a jump company

They did have a heavy rescue squad years ago. With a new engine being built and another new engine and ladder already in service, I am guessing they are trying to turn a page from the quint era. It is a sharp looking rig though. Wonder if it will be squad 71 or squad 72
