Bill they probably got rid of the 75 Mack MB because the newer guys couldn’t drive an unsynchronized manual transmission.

Truck 41’s old Pirsch was the spare squad.

How the mighty have fallen. I remember when the rig was new and it really did stand out as it was a one of a kind in Chicago. Engine 23 and Tower Ladder 5 were appropriately matched together in the same house.
They certainly got their moneys worth of use from it’s housemate Engine 23. Engine 23 several years later was converted to a Squad. So even then they had been running short of spare Squads.
It’s back then the CFD had rebuilt several older Engines into Squads which included a late 70s vintage American La France Engine which served as a Spare for Squad 1 when their brand new 1996 HME Saulsbury was damaged in an accident. There were also a couple of older 70’s vintage Seagraves as well as 1979 Ford Seagrave that had been converted to Squads however those rigs were converted to Squad because the Squads at the time were running as One Piece Snorkel Squads and they decided to make them into 2 piece Snorkel Squads as the one piece rigs were getting too top heavy..
The CFD also removed the Aerial Ladder from a 1988 Ford /Pirsch Truck body to also run as a Spare Squad.
The one rig at Engine 23’s house that I really don’t don’t understand wny they got rid of is Unit 671 the 1975 Mack M/B Super Deluge Unit. I under stand why they got rid of the Cab and Chassis however the 2 Large High Capacity Turrets the CFD could have remounted on a New Chassis..

I remember back in the mid 1990’s when ALF rolled out the EAGLE. This was pre internet for me so I sent and received brochures on it. Sure started of with promise but it turned out to be quite a lemon. they certainly had a distinct look that followed in succession of ALF models.

Refurbing this would not be a wise decision, Hairy.
– What is the condition of the frame rails?
– American LaFrance has been out of business for many years. They didn’t use a lot of proprietary parts but there are still a lot of parts on this truck that are proprietary and very difficult to get.
Realistically, this truck is done. It has served the city a long time. It’ll likely get scrapped and never used again. This era of American LaFrance wasn’t very good to begin with and the cabs are poorly setup. The new E-Ones trucks are far better then this old ALF.

Harry there are certain parts that are becoming harder to source for these.
