It interesting to see when Seagraves were more common in the Chicago Area. It is nice that Waukegan is still using Seagrave.
Another interesting fact about the Buffalo Grove Fire Department is that they actually run more Aerial Ladders then straight Engine companies. Despite there being 3 fire stations technically speaking only Station 26 runs with a straight Engine as Station 27 runs with Quint equipped with a 78 foot Aerial Ladder and Station 25 (being rebuilt at this time) just runs with a 100 foot Tower Ladder which is also technically speaking equipped as a “Quint”. Buffalo Grove Station 25 is only about a mile northeast of Arlington Heights Engine 4 so their Tower Ladder 25 acts as the Truck company for the North End of Arlington Heights just as Arlington Heights Engine 4 is the first due Engine for the southern half Tower Ladder 25’s district. They run on many of the same still alarms thanks to an Automatic Aid agreement.
It actually would make perfect sense if Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire/Riverwoods and Long Grove were merged into one large fire department as quite a few of their stations districts are actually closer to the next town over.
A great example is Buffalo Grove has a District 28 but no Station 28 and as far as I know there are no plans to build one however I understand that Lincolnshire/Riverwoods is planning to build a New Fire Station on Deerfield Road just east of Milwaukee avenue in Riverwoods which will let them relocate their Engine 52 from their current house about a mile and half east of there to the new Station and they will be less than 2 blocks from Buffalo Grove District 28.
In the case of Long Grove they haven’t run with a Truck with an Aerial device for a number of years so on many still alarms (or Code 3 or 4s) Buffalo Grove dispatches there Tower Ladder 25 or their Quint 27 into Long Grove as a Truck company if the fire is in the Center of or on the south end of Long Grove. So whether they merge those 4 Fire Department’s together or not they many time run on many of the same calls in some areas.
