Dennis, it is Squd 2A using 5-2-7, you can see this in a recent video by the YouTuber “MetraForce”. Squad 1’s main piece is using G510, as I had been for months, and the snorkel piece is in frontline service as of right now.

Why Local 2 isn’t filing unfair labor practices or health and safety complaints with Illinois OSHA or Federal OSHA over these issues is beyond me. Is it going to take a firefighter getting killed (or multiple firemen, gosh forbid,) in an unsafe apparatus incident for the CFD to do something? That’s what it took for Boston to completely turn their fleet around and they now have one of the most modern, up to date apparatus fleets in the nation because of a firefighter fatality.

I seen sqd. 5 using the old 6-7-8. The old dive squad. The should brought a back up set of squads when they had the chance. What is going on with the squads??? The rosenbauer???

What are the main issues with the current squads?

MABAS 21, All of the HME squads (not including G510) have been sold with the exception of G517 (Ex-Sq5) and G517 refuses to start and is awaiting disposal. As for Squad 7S (Squadzilla, the Pierce), even if it was able to be used outside the airport (which it cannot), it is currently stuck being a spare for HAZMAT 5-1-2 which has been OOS for a while and the only other possible HAZMAT spare (G510) is being hogged by Squad 1 (like it has been for months now). I could not agree more that the sate of CFDs fleet is saddening but the current administration has made it clear they have no intention of helping. In the meantime, companies will go OOS and rigs while use improper and abused spare when any are even available. The idea of Sq2A using 5-2-7 is also true.

Well this would explain why the former Squad 1, G510, is the only spare squad left to use. There was a recent post on Facebook showing one of the Squads using 5-2-7 as the second piece since all spare engines are taken and there’s nothing else left. This just exemplifies how dire the CFD’s fleet is. Does anyone know if the CFD has any of the HME/Central States spare squads left to use? Also can the CFD use Squad 7 Spare for the other OOS Squads or is it strictly for O’Hare?

By purchasing this squad, you could also be an owner of TV history, as this rig was the original Squad 3 in the TV show Chicago Fire! To think Lt Severide from the TV show actually sat in that rig also! Oh boy!
