CFD ambos are beat to death when they become reserve units, let alone get put up for auction. Re-chassis works for the suburbs where the units get much less wear and tear. For CFD you’d need to tear the box down and completely rebuild it. Cheaper and longer lasting for all new.

Depends on the type of ambulance. Large, higher priced custom boxes with relatively low wear and tear, rechassising might make sense. Lower priced units, such as these Wheeled Coach units, coupled with the abuse they take in a large, high volume urban setting, the cost savings is probably negligible with the amount of reconditioning required on the box.
