One fun thing about our apparatus replacement that most people don’t know is that when we build a new station we try to roll at least one apparatus purchase in with it. For instance, the 3s got a new engine with their house (despite being nowhere near replacement age), 16s got a new engine and tanker when they opened as 52s/54s closed, 5s got a new Tac (but not a new engine), etc.

The recent order from Pierce included 12 Engines, 3 Rear Mount Towers, 2 Mid Mount Towers, 2 Rear Mount Aerials and the mentioned Tiller. The next order should include 5 Engines, 2 Rear Mount Aerials, 1 Tower, 1 Heavy Rescue, 1 Tanker and a Tactical Support Unit.
IFD has excellent leadership, a great working relationship with Local 416 that have worked to provide funding for an aggressive apparatus replacement program.

Be sure to keep an eye out for our new tiller (to replace LD07) which should be in production soon. Cannot wait to see how it looks in the new colors/design!
And thanks for the compliments, Guys! While no job is perfect, you’re right, we have some very capable leadership advocating for us to the City/County Council and Mayor!

One thing missing from this post is the rear mount tower that is a part of this order.

I am guessing Indy is much better managed than Chicago! Glad at least one midwestern department is keeping their fleet up!

Indy getting all sorts of new rigs. Meanwhile, the mismanaged City of Chicago doesn’t have spare rigs available. Sad.

I like it being a nice squared off look. There seems to be a trend toward gray now. I suppose if you really want to paint the aerial itself, that’s one of the better color options.
