Palatine is set up pretty good regarding still district where the tower and the squad are in the middle of the city. They’re surrounded by water with engines in the other 4 firehouses and mutual aid. The tower and squad also carry waters cans for rescue or to get something started and I believe they carry some loose hose and adaptors to use the hydrant direct also if it’s an emergency. The squad and tower don’t really have a still district per say since they both run city wide on alarms,

MABAS 21 makes very valid points that I can’t dispute. I’m going to add onto what he’s saying. Unless a truck has 5-6 guys onboard, you can’t pull a pre-connect and setup the pump and the ladder at the same time. Primary means that suppression is not the highest priority. If I pull a pre-connect on the truck, now the manpower for the search and ventilation is occupied with a different task.
Has anyone noticed all the problems departments in the area have with their rear mount towers with pumps? It’s not one brand it’s most if not all the brands. I can’t even tell you the amount of work I’ve done on rear mount towers! Constant maintenance or repairs. Adding a pump means more to fail! I’m not saying trucks without pumps are flawless but the amount of problems are greatly reduced when there is no pump on the truck. In addition, how many of us have seen the maintenance on ALS trucks??? It’s unbelievably expensive!!!
A lot of departments use quints and they work fine for some departments. They don’t work well for other departments. I’m personally not a fan just for the fact that they actually spend of time being serviced.

Harry–They also have, unless it has been disposed of, an old Elk Grove engine, which is their reserve piece right now. I found that out through this website. They have a reserve engine & a reserve quint.

OMG!!! What’s a pumpless/tankless truck co. to do?!?!?!? What does Chicago, Milwaukee, Boston or FDNY do? How about Aurora, Joliet, Schaumburg or Evergreen Park?
Harry, not every aerial ladder out there needs to be a quint. Primary assignments for a truck co. are performing searches and ventilation at a structure fire.
When Tower 85 arrives first due at a structure fire, they’re going to perform forcible entry and initiate searches. If there is heavy fire conditions on the first floor preventing access, they will do a VES (Vent Enter Search) by throwing ground ladders to the windows on the upper floors. The truck crew will then search each room for any trapped occupants. They carry PW extinguishers or pump cans to hold a fire in check to buy time for the lead-out from the engine co.

I think getting a pump and water tank makes more sense for instance let’s say there is a fire near 85 house what are they going to do
Second look they have 4 Frontline engines and 1 reserve quint but if an engine down then the reserve is being used now if the truck goes down they would have to use the rescue
And third it’s not like they have to have a 1000 gallon tank on a ladder 300gallons is fine

On another note, does anyone know when Schaumburg will get the new Engine 51? It looks like it is nearing completion. The new engine 51 will have a top mounted ladder rack, as opposed to the side mounted rack. I am guessing they wanted more compartment space on this engine.

When will they take delivery? Will they have a push in ceremony? I

Will the engine be built soon? Which station will the new engine go to 81 or 82? I believe they moved the Ferrara to 82. I am guessing the new engine will go to 81.
Glad they left the TAK 4 and the multiplex off the truck.

They wanted to actually use it and not have a shop ornament

Palatine spec’d this truck to be a good reliable truck.
No multiplex.
No pump.
No TAK4.
Just a true truck!
