Joliet now has a three city coins. One has the city seal depicting Joliet as the crossroads of Mid-America. Another has the police department seal and the third has the fire department seal – to be used for recognition of police officers and firefighters.
They are for achievements and excellence as opposed to a certificate or a piece of paper.

Great idea. I have had a penchant over the last several years for challenge coins and medallions. Better than paper since paper can break down over time. Plus with these, you can carry them around with you should you choose too.
