This engine is currently at Station 102 getting it’s tools mounted. It will go to Engine 103. E103’s Ferrara has been reassigned to Engine 105

FFPM571: thanks for the actual Iinsight on the previous fleet history. I obviously received the sugar-coated version on how everything was Pierce’s fault. But if everything negative involved in-house actions, why the switch to Ferrara then?

the former Engine 3 (103) 2005 Enforcer is the oldest It has over 100K miles on it. It has always been a solid performer. The former Engine 1 then 103 a 2007 Impel was a solid Engine til it took a deep dive in flood waters . Engine 105 Enforcer is a 2014 and has had Issues since new. It was a hodge podge of work split between Appleton and Florida to try to meet a budget and that turned around and bit them… Though they blamed it on Pierce. The 1998 Lance tower was due to using it to Chase ambulance calls and Fire alarms all over town and lack of proper maintenance on the Village’s part to actually send it to a Pierce repair facility instead of trying to nickle and dime it in house on electronics.

Pretty decent deal for a midrange Pierce chassis engine. Now a days the wait time can be up to two years for a custom apparatus order.

This is supposedly the pierce demo Cicero was gonna buy that they are no longer going to.
#6 by harry on October 30, 2021 - 8:10 PM
what happened to the 08 velocity or impel that they had used to be engine 1
#7 by Mike C on October 30, 2021 - 8:10 PM
I’ve never been a big fan for pre-made apparatus unless it has very minimal use. I don’t know what how much use this pre-made rig has seen but demos are usually mistreated, and poorly maintained. I saw a local area department purchase a Pierce tower a few years ago with 20k miles. Nine years later, it’s still a pile of junk! It should’ve never been purchased.

I believe this will replace E105 as E103 is relatively new. I believe they still have the reserve Impel. E103 was using a Warrenville engine for a while about a month ago when their Ferrara was down. MABAS 21, the 2010 might be an identifier for a specific cab/chasis type. I know Pierce has four digit identifiers for certain versions of their chasis’.

I can’t believe that they are going with another Impel chassis again, let alone another Pierce. From inside sources DGFD was finished with Pierce because of the issues with the former Lance tower, former Enforcer Engine 103 and the Saber Engine 105. And to spend up to $35k on top of the $560k for modifications is ludicrous! Why not “borrow” a neighboring reserve engine if needed so you can properly spec the right apparatus to be built?
Also, am I reading the spec incorrectly, but it denotes 2010 Impel?

Sounds like they are getting this vehicle because the old Engine 103 engine failed so they do not have a reserve engine right now.

I wonder ? which engine this is going to replace? I am also surprised they are going back with Pierce. I wonder if they are going to replace engine 105?
