Mabas 21 Chief Holt is still the First Deputy Fire Commissioner. I wouldn’t be surprised if she eventually became the fire commissioner however.
The reporter apparently left out the words first deputy.

Bill Post:
Because last night on WGN news, while at a press conference for the
groundbreaking of the new Engine 115 house, Annette Nance-Holt was identified as the Fire Commissioner. AND she had 5 Bugles on her Class A.

Mabas 21, Fire Commissioner Richard C Ford was appointed by former Mayor Rahm Emanuel in September of 2018.
What would make you think there is a more recent appointment?

Did the CFD just appoint a new Fire Commissioner?

Danny, who is “they”?

The damage was pretty rough made worse by the fact that it had a do not start tag…and they turned on the truck. Engine all over the floor.

In New York City they established the “DART” program – Department Authorized Road Tow – where each tow company goes on a rotation list and gets notified by NYPD of the accident. No more competing companies racing to jobs. There were multiple fatalities prior to implementing this and the trucks were more street racer than wrecker.

Bill do you have any pictures of the Ford remounts? The Mack CF was such a classic looking chassis. I can’t believe the Ford’s would be the same way.

This brings back memories of when Truck 16 in a 1968 Model Mack CF, their first rear mounted rig, smashed into an iron CTA elevated trestle on 63rd Street. The cab and chassis were totaled however the Pirsch aerial Ladder was saved and remounted a Ford chassis by 3D Metal. It was a one-of-kind rig assigned to Truck 24 in 1978 with a canopy crew enclosure behind the cab.
About 10 years later the fire department remounted four other Pirsch aerials that were taken off of 1966 Mack chassis and remounted on Ford chassis. Those had enclosed crew cabs unlike the newer one at Truck 24.

Time they really cracked down on these @#$&*$^ tow trucks. Put them out of business once and for all.

Ouchy. Based on the age and severity of the damage, I wonder if the city will repair this. Doesn’t look horrible but those steps could get a little tricky to repair. Hard to tell the exact extent of the damage without seeing it in person.
