yeah thats wierd are haven’t rusted maybe we got that coating or something idk. I remember seagrave had that problem a while back to but they fixed it now obviously . Another manufacturer had that problem in the 70’s i think too i think pirsch but idk.

Interesting how Localguy’s department has had 4 Pierce’s rust away. Seems to be a very common issue with that inferior product.

Getting apparatus is really about picking the right manufacturer for your dept. You should never pick a manufacturer based on another towns decision. In My city we ran Hahn and Mack in the 80s, then switched to pierce in the 90’s and never switched since then. Of course we had minor problems but nothing major. Only major problem we had is really with the Quantams we had they were way too heavy for the streets and always got into accidents horrible spec. Now we run dash’s arrows and enforcers. https://www.firenews.org/ct/b/bridgeport/bridgeportct.html.
But for our neighboring towns they have been switching manufacturers every couple years so i guess their luck wasn’t as good. Not many Seagraves in my area a couple scopes and tdas recently but thats it. Its mostly Pierce Spartan Sutphen Kme Ferrera. it would be nice to see a little more Seagrave or Rosenbaurer though.

@LocalGuy yeah those coatings help with rust i suggest them for any purchase of apparatus from any manufacturer that offers it. The truck that i am talking about for that dept is a 2016 (I think ) seagrave tda .

Our department just switched from Pierce to Spartan. We now have two Spartan Frontline engines and a 100 foot mid-mount platform on order. Trucks have been great. Just normal maintenance and we’ve been good. Some normal wear and tear items. Things that can and will wear out on any rig. Our new tower has galvanized frame rails, out riggers and a galvanized torque box. That decision was made after four of our pierce trucks rusted out from under us.

I wonder why so many manufacturers are having issues?

From what i’ve even been hearing lately even seagrave has been having some quality issues. A city in my state switched from eone to seagrave and then to spartan. Now their new truck is a sutphen. These manufacturers need to get their shit together lol.
