Yes Mike those ambulances were in storage and waiting to be put in service. I know that they had been numbered and waiting to go in service since at least last February and possibly longer then that.

I guess we can assume that the 5 new Ford ALS amb 76-80 were already in and awaiting assignments, (what model year are these 2017??) since they already are receiving new Dodge Ambs or did they just buy these 5?

Doug Corwin JR, The CFD had converted what were 15 BLS ambulances into ALS ambulances during the third week of September 2014. When the fire department was running with BLS ambulances they started in the 80 series. The ALS ambulances were numbered 1 through 60 and the BLS ambulances were numbered 80 through 94. When they were converted over to ALS they just renumbered them from 61 through 75 in the same order as 80 through 94 was.
The BLS ambulance program in Chicago lasted slightly more then 14 years. The first 12 were put in service on June the 1, 2000 and the last 3 during late February and early March of 2007.

Great pic of Ambulance Co. 77, I am wondering how does the CFD system distinguish the difference between the BLS unit from the ALS units? Thanks for the information.
