Bolingbrook Fire Department news

Excerpts from the herald-news.com:

Edward Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services Run of the Quarter for July-September 2017 has been awarded to the Bolingbrook Fire Department for the care of a 52-year-old woman who had gone into cardiac arrest.

On July 10, BFD paramedics were called to the Edward-Elmhurst Health Bolingbrook Immediate Care, where the patient’s husband brought her because she was cool, clammy and feeling ill at work. While in the waiting room, she went into cardiac arrest. Edward-Elmhurst Immediate Care staff resuscitated the patient, and she was moved into a treatment room.

Upon their arrival, paramedics did an assessment and performed tests that confirmed the woman was having a heart attack. She was taken to the Edward Hospital Emergency Department and later treated in the cardiac catheterization lab for a totally blocked coronary artery that required angioplasty and a stent to restore blood flow. The patient went home three days later.

In the Run of the Quarter program, the Edward EMS Team reviews ambulance runs by prehospital providers and selects one to be recognized every three months based on the following criteria:

• Excellent communication from the field that resulted in the timely delivery of pertinent clinical information to the Edward emergency department staff

• Clear and thorough documentation.

• Superior clinical assessment skills that resulted in accurate recognition of a clinical situation.

• Behavior exceeding the call of duty in the field.

• Superior partnership and teamwork with Edward Hospital.
