I’ve heard a few weeks ago that there is one SABER with the POWERSTROKE on order fro next year but I don’t think it’s in the Chicago area.
I’m glad you brought that up because I don’t quite understand why PIERCE is offering this powertrain when they could have just offered a lower powered CUMMINS ISL that way, they could keep the same proven engine and transmission without having to make changes other than reprogram it for lower power. But I have a few ideas why anyway.
Perhaps they feel that since many ambulances have the POWERSTROKE, it makes a good case for standardization in all but the big ladders.
Or, they are going to aim this toward a command post application where higher power isn’t needed as much. Do you really need 400 HP in one when it may not be in such a hurry since its not going to have to have to race thru traffic as fast and it won’t be pumping?
From many accounts, the POWERSTROKE is a good engine with good power and torque but will it hold up to pumper use over time as well as the CUMMINS? TIme and the market will tell.

Also, does anyone know what type of engine this thing has in it? I know Pierce recently released the Saber with a Ford Powerstroke engine but I haven’t seen any with it.

Pierce is slow when it comes to updating their delivery photos. Their flickr is more up to date than the website, but the photos are still usually a few weeks delayed.

Nice SABER or ENFORCER there.
You don’t see too many PIERCE new delivery photo’s that aren’t composite but perhaps I’m not looking in the right places. Or is this a composite too?

Very nice! I like the paint job! This looks different then the 2012 engine they have. I am guessing they purchased at least 2 of them and will replace two more of the 1997 engines.
