This from Wayne Stuart:
The Gary Fire Department operated this 1942 American La France JOX series aerial ladder. It had a 100′ ladder and a 150-gallon booster tank with serial #L-1866. It was assigned originally to Truck Company 2, later on it was assigned to Truck Company 8, and finally to Truck Company 5. It was disposed of in the early 70’s to a sign contractor.

This was a transitional model between the 500/600 and the 700 series. The 700 was more refined, and would probably have appeared sooner if not for WWll restrictions on the production of manufactured goods for the civilian market.

That model is one of the most forgotten apparatus in history even though it was ahead of it’s time.
I don’t know why ALF never had a pumper version but I think the 700 series was better looking anyway.

So strange to see homes instead of a vacant, overgrown lot on the corner across from station 5.
