They were going to buy Orland’s Truck 7 (2004 Pierce, 105′ non quint straight stick). The deal fell throgh for some reason.

This department has had a lot of ups and downs with apparatus. After running a fleet of used rigs for several years they received a brand new 2012 Eone engine. By 2013 it was totaled after being struck by a semi truck on an expressway call. Since then they’ve purchased a 1994 Spartan/KME in 2013 and received a donated Pierce engine from Bloomfield Township in 2016.
As for trucks, they replaced a 1995 Eone tower ladder with a 2001 Sutphen mid Mount tower in 2013, originally from Upper Arlington OH. That truck caught fire on 3/20/17 and was totaled. This Westmont tower is its replacement.
Also in 2013 they moved into a new fire station after years of living in a warehouse. Since then Detroit has taken over their dispatch and their chief uses the radio signature of chief 3. They give and receive aid to Detroit and Hamtramck. All 3 depts respond with and into each other’s towns.
This isn’t the first Illinois used rig to end up there. They ran a 1989 Eone Hush formerly from Naperville for several years in the mid 2000s.

Note that this is Highland Park, MIchigan, not Illinois. Complete contrast. This community is an impoverished suburb only a few miles North of Detroit. There was a video about their fire department a few years ago (2013?), shot by a FF wearing a helmet cam. Numerous structure fires, almost all fought by the crews from only two rigs. Little mutual aid since they seldom can reciprocate. Overworked, short-staffed, and and poorly paid…yet these guys still serve the community. I believe portions of that video are still out there via “You tube”. I am sure Westmont’s truck was a welcomed addition.
