Streamwood always had some type of 100′ aerial in their fleet, nothing unusual other than adding the basket.
For the Seagrave comment, once a Dept is a Seagrave customer they are very good to work with. Being for a dept that tried (yes really tried) to get a Seagrave, either having a demo to come and look at, a salesman or even discussion about apparatus, it was next to impossible. We were told we can come to the factory and look. Its a shame because the Seargraves are very good apparatus!

Thanks for the information, Bill. That’s quite a jump in size that Streamwood is making when you consider that they are going from a 75-foot quint to a 105-foot tower ladder. I certainly hope that they don’t have many tight clearance side streets in Station 32’s district.

Bill,
Station 32 runs Truck 32 as a jump company Truck/Medic. I was just there on a change quarters and one of their Lt’s told me that Station 32 is the only station that will fit the new truck due to its height.

Michael M, Google Maps messed up. They showed 900 W Irving Park as being a few blocks east of Park Avenue where Station 33 is. I double checked Station 32’s address and Bing gave the correct location as being a block east of Route 59. I tried again and Google still shows the wrong location for 900 W Irving Park. Hard to believe but Google messed up.
You are correct and my comment on the location of Station 32 in relation to Station 33 should be disregarded. Station 32 is 1.5 miles west of Station 33, not less than a mile away. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

To the best of my knowledge Truck now tower 32 runs as a quint in it’s own district. I am sure route 59 is very busy and it seems like 59 is closer to station 32 than 33.

You don’t see many Seagrave rear mounted tower ladders anywhere. When it comes to Seagrave aerial platforms their Aerialscope (the New York style tower ladder) has always been much more popular. I’m sure that the market share of the Apollo tower ladder is pretty small compared to other brands. Streamwood’s rig is the only one in the Chicago area.
It’s interesting to note that while the Los Angeles City Fire Department never owned a tower ladder and the Los Angeles County Fire Department currently isn’t using any, the City of Long Beach, California which is the second largest city in Los Angeles County, has been using an Apollo tower ladder for years. That’s one of the few places that I know of that has one.
Apparently Streamwood is one of the few towns in the Chicago area that is still a good Seagrave customer.
I noticed that Streamwood Station 32 is a little less then mile from Station 33, so I was wondering if Truck 32 has a first-due district as a quint or is dispatched strictly as a truck company. It is located so close to Engine 33 that it would seem to make more sense to run them out of the same station or better yet move Station 33 further west to better spread the stations out.
