WGNTV.com has an article about Chicago firefighters and paramedics being suspended as a result of a 2009 investigation.
The Chicago Fire Department has suspended 16 more firefighters and paramedics for falsifying claims for mileage reimbursement; a 17th firefighter has already retired. In 2009, the firefighters together collected more than $35,000 in reimbursements for miles they never actually drove; they’ll be suspended for between 30 and 45 days. The city’s inspector general has recommended they be fired, but it’s unlikely they’ll lose their jobs.
thanks Dan

Yes ME you said it! Thank’s for writing that. The words just wouldn’t come out right and I was just so disgusted after all the hard work on this last contract and nothing was given up, and then this! I always have and always will love the CFD, as well as all my brothers (and sisters) that I served with during my 20 yrs. This just TARNISHES all the hard working, loyal, and honest FF’s that make sacrifice each and every shift! And your right about the public seeing this article! Mutts…..I have a few other choice words, but will keep that to myself.

I will always stand by my fellow firefighters, but in this case I have to agree with the Inspector General. These individuals have demonstrated behavior that destroys trust between the public and the fire department. The even bigger issue is we are living in a time in which firefighters, police officers, teachers, etc. are being drug through the mud by politicians that like to blame financial woes on our pensions and high salaries. It is actions like this that throw gas on these already raging fires of political bashing!! This is a disgusting display of greed and selfishness and even worse, it makes us ALL look bad…..regardless of what agency or people are involved. We have all worked hard to gain public trust, and all it takes is for a few mutts to destroy it. SHAME!!

Nice……really nice! I’m very disappointed to have read the article. What a shame a few had to make a bad name for the CFD! UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!
