Bill,
To the best of my knowledge (I don’t work there) there are 2 paramedics that only ride the ambo. Then there is a 3-4 man jump co that cover the squad and truck. I think the squad is first due on everything in town, and the truck goes mutual/auto aid. The truck could respond in town to an incident if manned by callback personnel. Any other special equipment is manned by the jump co, or callback/duty special team members if it’s in another town.
As far as T14 responsibilities at fire, if a quint is first due it likely takes the first task deemed necessary by the officer. Often pulling a line but it could be any fireground function depending on the situation.

Since Ladder 14 is the only Ladder company in Glenview and it runs alone from Station 14 I would assume that is acts as a quint when responding first due in Station 14’s district so for small fires (rubbish, prairie and autos) it would respond in place of an engine.
If it is first due on a structure fire do they pull off a line or do they just do forcible entry and vent work while they are waiting for the first due engine to arrive?

RJ how does the jump company work in Northfield. Is it a crew the jumps between the Engine , the Truck and the Dive Unit?
I would assume that the Ambulance and the Squad would have dedicated (continuous) manning am I correct?

Northfield’s current 100′ E-One ladder is being sold. GLVW has an agreement with Northfield concerning the old T14. It will be housed at NFLD Sta 29 and will be staffed similiarly to how T29 is now by NFLD. It really only goes auto and mutual aid fires, and is manned by the jump company. I’m pretty sure their squad is first due on everything in their town. In the future GLVW T14 will respond to most, if not all, fires in NFLD as the 1st due truck. GLVW will have access to old T14 if the front line T14 is O.O.S. If there are any GLFD or NFLD guys out there can you expound?

Northfield’s truck will be a reserve for both towns and will be at Sta 29. A reason A8 is not manned is due to overtime costs. It is only oos only at night when there is ot being paid. If the shift is at minimum, the ambulance will be in service. They don’t send anyone home. There is talk about bringing back 24/7 due to an agreemnet with the Glenbrook Fire District. Not 100% sure on that issue but, the union is pressing the issue.

What happened to Northfields truck?

I saw this rig at the funeral for Trooper James Sauter, the patch to the left of “Glenview” on the ladder plate is Northfield’s patch.

Shutting-down ambulance 8 during overnight hours was definitely due to money issues, not lack of need. Not sure of the exact details, but I remember reading something having to do with the firefighters union & compensation. I know that the department would like to have the ambulance in-service full time.

This Truck was a combined purchase with Northfield Fire-Rescue. Northfield paid about $200,000 toward the purchase in return Glenview supplies a truck for Northfield.

Ever consider that they maybe also determined that they don’t need that ambo? Just because you can have 500 staffed engines doesn’t mean you need them.

Yeah, how is it that they can buy all these new fancy rigs, yet have to shut-down ambulance 8 from 7p–7a??

There is no question that Glenview has very good looking rigs and they have been buying new rigs every few years. The oldest front line rig is a 2006 Pierce engine at Station 13 that was handed down when Engine 7 received a 2010 model. Engine 6 received a 2010 model rescue pumper at the same time so their 2006 became another new reserve engine.
Glenview has had some financial difficulties as well because they had to make one of their 3 ambulance companies into a part-time unit. In other words they had to reduce it’s hours.

Glenview is on a roll, after just putting new ambulance 6 into service recently as well. I must say, they have the nicest looking rigs around.
