Two of the new Spartan Gladiator/Crimson 103′ rear mount aerial ladders have gone into service. Trucks 9 and 51 have received the new units.
Larry Shapiro tracked down Truck 9 several hours after the company picked up their new apparatus at the fire department shops.

@ Truck 59’s house, they could move Engine 15 over to the truck side and have the ambo and truck on the other side. They would have to move the ambo to get the buggy out everytime though if it’s just a run for the chief.

Truck Co. 61 and 62 are currently running with 1996 Seagraves too. Why not put the new rigs into their quarters?

I think that it might be a tight squeeze to fit the new rigs into quarters at Trucks 56 and 59, which might require some door modifications before they go in service.

Truck 59 still has their Seagrave too.

As of today, Sunday March 6, 2011, Truck 56 is still using it’s 1996 Seagrave. I saw them heading east at Peterson near Western without lights or sirens around the time a Still and Box alarm was struck in for a high rise fire at 33 North Dearborn.

Bob C, and Chris, first off I’m sure it’s an NFPA standard now that there is red and blue on the rear, just as for the past 10 years there has been red and yellow on the rear. As long as the fronts stay red and green, the tradition here in Chicago will stay strong. The new engines and trucks still have red and green on the front, but due to the new type of lighting, the lenses are clear and it’s the LEDs that change color.
As far as the suburbs having red and blue, I haven’t really seen that too much around my area.

I was driving by 64’s house last night right when Truck 31’s bay door opened. I was aware they received a new truck, so I pulled over to take a look at it as it drove by. Why the hell do they have blue LED lights on the back? They look like a truck from the suburbs when you’re driving behind it and it breaks Chicago traditional lighting. At first I thought there was a CPD squad following it.

Truck Co. 31 also received their new rig.
Truck Co. 59 is supposed to receive a new rig, but as of Sunday they still have the old rig.
