As reported earlier, Evanston has received their new Pierce Arrow XT engine for Station 23. This has a 1,500-GPM pump and a 500-gallon water tank. It features an extended cab with a raised roof and non-painted roll-up compartment doors similar to Engine 21. The cab features short barrier style doors which is a first for Evanston. It carries Pierce job #23324. As pictured here, it does not yet appear to have been adorned with the Northwestern University Wildcat emblem as was speculated since the university provided funding for this unit.

The truck has been parked in various fire stations and showcased at various Northwestern functions. It’s a nice truck compared to the trucks from the 80s I’ve seen driving and serving the town, but the current E23 with the TeleSqurt is still front line so I was just wondering if the new truck was going to be placed in service soon.

Mark have you actually seen the new rig in the Evanston City Garage or is the information strictly “word of mouth”? I hope that the engine has passed the acceptance tests, in Evanston. I hope that the rig wasn’t recalled. There is a recent link on this site about some recalls that Pierce had put into effect.
I don’t think that this has anything to do with the new Engine 23, but for a few weeks in August, the city manager of Evanston had taken Truck 23 out of service and had relocated Truck 22 to Station “21” as part of an unfair negotiating ploy. However, a court had ruled in favor of the Evanston firefighters, so the those companies were restored to their previous status as three firefighters who were laid off were put back on the job.
