The Oak Brook Fire Department received a report of a house on fire Friday night on Forest Gate Circle near Oak Brook Station 1. The Daily Herald reports that:

A passer-by spotted flames shooting from the roof of the home in the Forest Gate subdivision shortly before 10:30 p.m. and ran to the Oak Brook fire station across the street to alert officials, Battalion Chief Jeffrey Marciniak said.

Stephen Wilcox responded to the fire and submitted a few images. He reports that the house had the equivalent of four stories and measured about 100′ x 100′.  As the first companies responded (2225 hours), they could see flames above the structure from their quarters. The fire had a hold of the roof and attic space on arrival, and the  response was elevated to a 2-11 alarm. Oak Brook’s tower ladder is out of service so the first-due truck was from Oakbrook Terrace. Oakbrook Terrace Tower 317 and Lombard Tower 52 went to work with master streams along with several two and a half inch lines. The initial loss figure is $1,600,000, the home’s full value. There were no injuries reported.

“There’s just a shell of the house remaining right now,” Marciniak said. “There’s almost nothing there.” Fire departments from 19 surrounding towns assisted in putting out the double-alarm fire over several hours Friday night. Ladder trucks from Oakbrook Terrace and Lombard provided elevated water streams to the heavily inflamed sections of the home.

Several neighboring homes in the small cul-de-sac were evacuated because of heavy smoke and a high potential for the fire to spread. The nearby roof of one home was charred and smoking. There were no injuries to neighbors or firefighters in putting out the fire.
