House fire in Wilmette, 8-22-16

Wilmette firefighters were called to their first fire of the day Monday afternoon just before 2PM (8/22/16) at 1336 Ashland Avenue where workers were apparently on the roof. The initial report was a possible attic fire. The house was located within blocks of Station 26 and units arrived quickly and reported smoke from the attic and some visible fire. The alarm was upgraded to the Code 4 working fire which brought mutual aid companies from Evanston, Winnetka, Northfield, Glenview, and Skokie.

The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes though companies remained on the scene for over an hour doing overhaul, venting, and chasing hot spots. Most mutual aid companies were released before 3:30PM when RED Center dispatched another house fire in Wilmette. This will be covered in a separate post.

Still and Box @ 71st and Sangamon 2-28-14

This from Josh Boyajian:

Companies were dispatched to a still alarm Friday at 7115 s Sangamon. While enroute, Engine 54 advised the EFAO that they could see the header and they indeed had a fire. E-54 arrived and boxed it. They had heavy fire showing and had the sector 4 exposure going also. Here are some of my shots. The whole gallery is on my site.

And from Dennis McGuire, Jr,

Engine Co. 54 was first in to 7115 S. Sangamon and found fire in a 2 1/2 story frame. They made entry into to the building while Truck Co. 20 did the ventilation and searches. No victims were found but the fire did spread a bit to 7117 S. Sangamon, also a 2 1/2 story frame. Engine Co. 54’s hydrant man did find a frozen hydrant which caused the chief to ask for the Still & Box alarm. Companies made a quick knock of the fire once a positive source of water was established.
