Beach Park Fire Department is on the site

Beach Park Fire Protection District decal

Another Lake County, MABAS Division 4 department has been added to the site. Formerly known as the Bonnie Brook Fire Protection District, The Beach Park Fire Department covers roughly 14 square miles in northeast Lake County which includes unincorporated areas of the county as well as Beach Park. They do not though currently provide coverage for the entire town of Beach Park as the Winthrop Harbor Fire Department has responsibility for a portion of the town.

According to the Beach Park Village Link Newsletter in the winter of 2003:

The New Beach Park Fire Department

In the last months of 2002, there were plenty of positive changes in the fire protection services for our village. Formerly known as the “Bonnie Brook Fire Protection District”, the name was officially changed to the “Beach Park Fire Department” (BPFD) last November to better define the department’s capabilities and service areas.

Beach Park has a mixture of apparatus in the fleet including Alexis, Pierce, Seagrave, Medtec, and Osage. The newest rig is Engine 1222 which is a 2008 Seagrave Maurauder II engine. Currently, Beach Park Engine 1212, a 2002 HME/Alexis engine is undergoing work at Alexis Fire Apparatus.

In recent Beach Park FD news, they have opened a second station at 13110 W. Major Avenue in Beach Park. This interesting station originated as an existing house with an attached garage. The garage was modified as a lobby and office area and a two-bay addition was then added for the apparatus. At the present time, this station has a crew of two or three which are a jump company, staffing either the engine or ambulance based on the nature of a request for service.

Their fleet of suppression equipment is 99% Pierce with the one exception being a 1986 S&S tanker running out of Station 2. The newest additions are a pair of twin 2009 Pierce Velocity engines and a 2010 Ford F350/Medtec Type I ambulance. Prior to the purchase of these Velocity units, all McHenry Township engines were on Pierce Lance chassis. They have two squad units; one Pierce Arrow and one Pierce Saber.

New pumper/squad in Glencoe

Glencoe Fire Department Pierce Saber Squad 30

Glencoe Squad 30 which arrived recently is not yet in service. It is a Pierce Saber and replaces a Pierce Lance. Larry Shapiro photo

The Glencoe Fire Department (Public Safety Department) received a new unit for Squad 30. Replacing a 1993 Pierce Lance with a 20″ raised roof, the new Squad 30 is considerably smaller and utilizes a Saber cab with a 10″ raised roof. The new unit no longer has a cascade system and has less overall compartment space. It is roughly the same size as Engine 30, a 1996 Pierce Saber.

Squad 30 has deep rescue-style compartments and a pair of extrication tools in the front bumper. It has a hydraulic ladder rack, air bags, spare air bottles, 1,500 GPM pump, 500 gallons of water, electric cord reels, cribbing, a portable generator for the hydraulic tools, assorted hand tools, and various extinguishers.

Once the radios are installed, Squad 30 will go into service.

In East Joliet,

Karl has provided a photo of the new Engine 531. Running out of Station 3, it’s a 2009 Pierce Saber 1500/1000/30 which is painted white over red. Engine 531 has a Wil-Burt light tower on the cab roof. (this should be standard issue for all engines … fire buffs need the nighttime scene lighting to assist with fire photography) The old Engine 531 is currently being stored at Station 1.

new rig on order for Glencoe

The Glencoe Public Safety Department is replacing Squad 30 with a new Pierce Saber pumper squad that is due late this year. The new Squad 30 though will not have an air cascade system as the current unit does.

As a side note, Reserve Engine 30 (E30R) was omitted from the Glencoe page. The 1981 American LaFrance Century Series pumper will be added soon along with several corrections to the other units that have been posted:  Ambulance 30 was built by Medtec not Road Rescue, there is no Ambulance 30R, Engine 30 has a 30 gallon foam tank, and Squad 30 has a 40 gallon foam tank.
