Working fire in Hawthorn Woods, 11-8-14

This from Larry Shapiro:

The Countryside FPD was alerted to a full-involved house fire in the area of Midlotian and Kruckenberg Roads in Hawthorn Woods after 11PM on Saturday(11-8-14). Once the address was confirmed, the vacant house was situated in the Lake Zurich Fire Protection District, but Countyrside units were already arriving on the scene. The building was one of several structures on the property at 12124 Kruckenberg Road which is currently being cleared for a new residential development.

Access was delay ed by two Jersey barriers that were blocking the road and had to be moved. An in-line operation supplied water from one side of the incident with over a thousand feet of 5″ hose involving Long Grove Tanker 55, Countryside Tender 411, Lake Zurich Engine , and Countryside Engine 411.  Another hydrant from a street behind the site was also used for a master stream from Countryside Tower 412 and a hand line.

Box Alarm for the townhouse fire in Vernon Hills, 3/21/14

This from Larry Shapiro:

The Countryside FPD responded to a fire in a townhouse at 431 Tyler Court this morning as a crew inside was working on the floors. Evidently vapors ignited creating a flash fire that went out, but not before getting into a void inside the wall between two units. There was no visible sign of fire or damage outside the building, but three units suffered damage as the fire was on two floors and required extensive overhaul to find all of it before it could extend into the attic.

Countryside units were assisted by Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Mundelein, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Knollwood, Gurnee, Buffalo Grove, Lake Villa, and Round Lake.

Here are some images from the scene.

La Grange Park house fire, 2-19-14

From the SunTimes Media

Four people were injured after a fire broke out at a home in west suburban La Grange Park.

Emergency crews responded at 3:36 p.m. to the blaze at a two-and-a-half-story home in the 500 block of North Kensington Avenue, according to a statement from La Grange Park Fire Department Chief Dean Maggos.

An unspecified number of people in the house said they heard what sounded like an explosion in the basement of the home before they saw smoke and ran outside. Everyone inside, including several dogs, escaped before firefighters arrived, Maggos said.

Two children and two adults were taken to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital with smoke inhalation, and their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, officials said.

Damage to the home was “substantial,” but there was not an exact estimate on the value of damages, Maggos said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Countryside FPD house fire 4-17-13

This from Larry Shapiro:

Lightning is possibly to blame for starting a  house on fire at 26770 Longmeadow Circle in unincorporated Mundelein. The Countryside FPD received calls reporting black smoke from the front of the house around 12:30PM on Wednesday at what was a lull between heavy thunderstorms on the area. First arriving units found the homeowners outside and confirmed a structure fire. The alarm was quickly elevated to a MABAS Box Alarm which brought tankers (tenders) to the scene in addition to engines and trucks. Within the next 10 minutes a 2nd Alarm was requested sending additional units to the scene. Two Countryside units had lines off and the tower ladder deployed a master stream. The tankers were precautionary and though Long Grove Tanker 55 dropped a supply to Countryside’s engine, none of the other tankers were utilized.

After the bulk of the fire was knocked down, the area was pelted with another severe thunderstorm. By 2:30 most mutual aid companies had been released from the scene though there was still quite a bit of overhaul and salvage work. Companies came from Mundelein, Long Grove, Wauconda, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Lake Villa, Buffalo Grove, Grayslake, Round Lake, Fox Lake, Wheeling, Gurnee, Knollwood, Lake Forest, and Lake Zurich.

Here are some images and a short video from the scene.
