Wheeling and Prospect Heights firefighters were sent to 100 E. Palatine Road Monday afternoon for a reported crash. This address is on the westbound Palatine frontage road east of the railroad tracks. Upon arrival, firefighters were directed to a car that had left the roadway and traveled down an embankment coming to rest underneath the railroad bridge. The car’s sole occupant, with apparently non life-threatening injures, was unable to get out. After forcing open a door, the patient was carried up the embankment on a backboard and transported to an area hospital. The car was then winched back up onto the road. Train traffic was halted in the area for roughly 30 minutes while firefighters and then tow operators worked beneath the rail bridge.
