The Schiller Park Fire Department in MABAS Division 20 has been added to the site. Schiller Park has two stations, though only the headquarters station is staffed. The second station currently houses a reserve engine and ambulance. The suppression fleet consists of Pierce apparatus with a broad range of chassis: Saber, Enforcer, Dash, & Impel. Ambulances are from Wheeled Coach, Road Rescue, and very soon from Medtec as well.
Daily staffing includes an engine, an ambulance, a shift commander, and a jump company for the tower ladder or a second ambulance. Although apparatus is currently black over red, Schiller Park was at one time lime green and also had separate fire and EMS divisions.

Tim Olk happened to spot a header yesterday as he was driving and followed it to find a well-involved PACE transit bus at the Metra station on Lake-Cook Road in Northbrook. He arrived with Northbrook Engine 10 and photographed the knock-down.

Jeff Rudolph again traveled across the border on Thursday to a fire in Wisconsin and had the following description:
Pleasant Prairie, WI pulled box 56-01 to the Box Alarm level for a fire at Dejno’s Inc @ 7533 75th St. Fire was showing on arrival from a roof top hopper unit that is used to load saw dust. Winthrop Harbor, IL went change of quarters to Pleasant Prairie Sta.1 and Newport 1415 went to the scene. Mutual aid companies also came from Bristol, Somers, Kensoha, and Salem. One FF was slightly injured and was treated and released at the scene. Extensive overhaul had to be done to make sure all of the smoldering dust was extinguished.

Jeff Rudolph took in an MVA involving a car and a tractor-trailer on I94 north of Russell Road, just across the Wisconsin border this afternoon. The Newport Township Fire Department responded with Ambulance 1441, Squad 1458 and 1400. Pleasant Prairie, Wi sent an ambulance, and Bristol, WI sent a squad and an ambulance. All three ambulances transported to Kenosha area hospitals. All injuries appeared to by yellows. There is ongoing construction on I94, and Bristol’s chief told Jeff that this was the third accident in a week in the same spot.

Skokie Snorkel 1 (later Truck 16) when it was in-service. Steve Redick photo
Jeff Rudolph spotted a familiar relic.
Skokie’s old ’69 Pirsch Snorkel. It was sadly heading to a scrapyard in Wisconsin. It was picked up from Jim Carews place in Bristol, WI. After it was placed out of service in the mid 90’s it was sold to Wally Mitchel, then Jim. It was used to put up radio towers and antennas. Take note of the missing basket, as well as anything else that was on it. Also look at the trailer its being hauled on. The guy only made it 1 mile and a State Trooper had him pulled over for an unsafe load.

The Winnetka Fire Department in MABAS Division 3 has placed their new quint into service which ushers in a new look for the department. The 2010 Smeal was delivered with a black roof and the department designed a new door seal. The design is a maltese cross in gold and black which incorporates both the Winnetka and Kenilworth names. Engine 28, the 2000 Pierce Saber received a black top, the new decal, and new striping. Ambulance 28 also has the new decal and striping. As of now, Engine 28R and Ambulance 28R both have the original look and the previous door decal.

This is how Truck 28 looked when it was retired. It had their most recent door seal and two-tone striping.
Winnetka Truck 28 had a 1,250-GPM pump and carried 300 gallons of water. Larry Shapiro photo
When Winnetka received Truck 28 in 1990, the original graphics were much simpler and the door seal featured the sun rising on at the lake.

Before Winnetka changed their numbering to Station 28 as part of MABAS Division 3, their rigs carried unit numbers in the ’70s’. Truck 70, shown here, preceded Truck 28 as one of Winnetka’s two aerial devices. They also had a 55-foot Snorkel in the house.
Winnetka Engine 28 now sports a black roof plus a triple stripe with the new door seal.
Engine 28 formerly had a white roof and blue door seal. Larry Shapiro photo
The previous design for Engine 28 had lettering on the rear door listing both Winnetka and Kenilworth. These names were included in the new door seal leaving more room for a nice graphic showing the unit number.

When Engine 28 was purchased, it had the rising sun door decal matching the truck shown above.
