St Charles Fire Department news

Excerpts from the DailyHerald.com:

An off-duty Geneva firefighter helped three neighbors escape unharmed early Sunday after fire swept through their St. Charles home, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.

St. Charles firefighters were called to a home on the 1000 block of Ronzheimer Avenue about 2:18 a.m. Sunday. They arrived about five minutes later to find one house fully engulfed in flames that was extending to a neighboring home.

Firefighters were able to first stop the spread of the fire into the second home and then get the main fire under control within 40 minutes.

Officials said a neighbor returning home from work early Sunday first spotted the fire and called 911, while her husband, the off-duty firefighter, woke up the residents. No residents or firefighters were injured, officials said, but the off-duty firefighter suffered a minor injury.

Reel firefighter spots real fire and evacuates residents

Excerpts from WGNTV.com:

An extra-alarm fire broke out near the filming of a television show on the city’s South Side. The fire started around 10:15 a.m. Thursday at a two-story home located at 4825 S. Kimbark Avenue.

The TV show ‘Chicago Med’ was filming two doors down and people in the area believed the fire to be part of the show. An off-duty firefighter, moonlighting as a medic for ‘Chicago Med,’ smelled the smoke and realized it was an actual fire.  He called it in, then ran over and helped the family evacuate the house.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
