North Maine FPD Engine 1

North Maine District Chief Mike Fox has updated us again on the progression of Engine 1R into Engine 1. The 1992 Pierce Arrow reserve engine has been undergoing rehab and upgrades at Alexis Fire Equipment for several months. As mentioned in a previous post, when it is completed, it will move up as the front line engine replacing the 2003 American LaFrance Eagle. General body work, the addition of high sides on the officer’s side, air conditioning, and an extended chrome bumper with front intake represent several areas being worked on in addition to the changeover from a white cab roof to black. Previous posts can be seen HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE (or simply enter North Maine into the search field at the right)

The unit recently came out of the paint shop and the folks at Alexis took some photos which are shown below.

North Maine engine update

Alexis Fire Equipment has been refurbishing and updating a Pierce Arrow engine for the North Maine Fire Protection District as reported HERE and HERE. District Chief Mike Fox recently returned from inspecting the progress of the unit and submitted the photos shown below.

North Maine FPD Pierce engine

Chief Fox offered the following notes on the work:

The rig will be in the paint shop next week.  After that, three and a half to four weeks before we get it back.  Ladder rack is a single arm instead of a double.  The 5 inch re-piping is all done.  The rear lights will be modified and lowered.  Many of the doors are already in the paint shop getting primed.  There will be monster gauges on three sides of the vehicle.  The wireless Firecomm system is ordered.  The artist is coming along on the lettering.

North Maine refurb update

Engine 1R from North Maine has been at Alexis being refurbished for several weeks. When it returns, it will become the frontline engine. Some of the updates being done include adding air-conditioning, adding high-side compartments to the officer’s side, updating the lighting and adding an extended front bumper with a front intake and hose storage.

North Maine FPD updates

Karl Klotz has sent in the following information about the North Maine FPD in Division 3 who has some apparatus changes in the works. They have put a 2010 Ford/Horton MICU into service as Ambulance 1 and reassigned the 2004 IHC/Road Rescue as Ambulance 1R.  The 1992 IHC/Road Rescue that was Ambulance 1R is now Utility 1 which will serve the TRT, Haz Mat and Dive Teams in addition to the investigators.

Engine 1R the 1992 Pierce Arrow pumper will be going to Alexis to be refurbished. This will return as Engine 1 reportedly with a black roof. The 2003 American LaFrance pumper will then be reassigned as Engine 1R.

new site additions: Arlington Heights and North Maine FPD

The Arlington Heights link (Division 1) has been updated to include all four stations. There are still a few tidbits that will need to be updated (like the body builder for all of the squads … and a few dates of manufacture) but otherwise the only missing apparatus is the ever elusive ambulance 4 and RE4 which is currently at the fire academy.

Hopefully Elk Grove Village and Rolling Meadows will be the next Division 1 departments to go online.

The North Maine FPD (Division 3) was also added recently.   Park Ridge will be added within a few days.

The Chicago FD listing of Districts/Battalions (Division 9) is still being tweaked for accuracy and once this has been completed, CFD rigs and stations will begin to appear on the site. Images are being supplied by several contributors.
