Excerpts from the Chicagotribune.com:

Northbrook Fire Department Deputy Chief Andrew Carlson will be appointed fire chief at the beginning of next year, officials announced Wednesday.

Carlson will replace Fire Chief Jose Torres, who is retiring at the end of December. The promotion is effective Jan. 1, 2018. He has worked in fire protection for 35 years, 18 of which for the Northbrook Fire Department.

He started in 1999 as a firefighter and paramedic. Over the course of his career he was promoted to lieutenant, captain, battalion chief, and deputy chief.

Torres, who was hired in January of 2015 after a nationwide search, said Thursday that he decided to retire because it is time for him to move on both personally and professionally. He added that his tenure as chief has been productive so he wants to leave on a high note.
