Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

Todd Overmyer, a Naperville Fire Department paramedic, knew he had to stop when he saw a motorcyclist just involved in an accident laying on the pavement, unconscious and struggling to breathe. His actions were enough to have possibly saved the life of Steve Iovinelli, the retired Franklin Park fire chief. Overmyer opened an airway that allowed Iovinelli to breathe while waiting for help to arrive. He then checked for injuries, noting possible broken wrists, a pelvis fracture, and head injuries which he conveyed to Troy Fire Protection District paramedics. Throughout the ordeal, Iovinelli remained unconscious.

At Tuesday’s Naperville City Council meeting, Overmyer was presented with Naperville Fire Chief Mark Puknaitis’ Life Saving Award.
