New home for Oak Lawn truck

Karl Klotz has informed us that Anne Arundel County Maryland has purchased the former Oak Lawn E-ONE truck 3.  It will be assigned to Truck Co. 31.

Oak Lawn firefighters spec’d out this truck during the term of an interim chief. When a permanent chief was hired, a decision was made that a 75′ quint would better serve the fire department’s needs.  This unit was taken out of service along with the 1991 Pierce Lance HDR and both were offered for sale. Truck 3 as it is pictured here was in service for only a few months.

Troy FPD is added to Division 15

Another fire department has been added to the site thanks to the diligence of Karl Klotz … although we’re still awaiting images of the stations. Nonetheless, the Troy Fire Protection District is now on the site showing apparatus from both stations. Troy recently opened a new headquarters station and began ordering apparatus in a new color scheme. As recently as their 2008 IHC/Medtec ambulance and 2008 Kenworth/Pierce Contender tanker, all of their apparatus was lime green, . They now have four units that are painted black over a very deep red. Two new Pierce Arrow XT engines are in service as well as a Ford/Medtec ambulance and a brush unit on a four-door Ford pickup.

Troy currently has two engines carrying number 2221. They have not as yet determined what the new designation will be for the older engine 2221.

Northwest Homer FPD is on the site

Karl Klotz provided images for the Northwest Homer FPD. They have two stations filled with Pierce apparatus, the newest of which was delivered this month.

Northwest Homer moved from MABAS Division 19 to Division 15 at the beginning of the year. Their rigs rotate running positions and between the two stations which is why they do not have numbers on the doors. This department is made up of a combination of paid, contract, and part-time personnel.

Roberts Park has been added to the site

Roberts Park Fire Protection District patchAnother department has been added to Division 21. Thanks to Bill Friedrich and Karl Klotz for images representing the Roberts Park Fire Protection District which serves Hickory Hills and Justice. They run out of two stations with 17 career personnel and 60 part-time personnel. Most of the fire suppression apparatus is Pierce with one engine built by Crimson. Of interest is Ladder 31, a 2008 Pierce Arrow XT 100′ rear mount aerial with no pump and no water tank. This is one of the units that has been featured as the apparatus on the TV show “Rescue Me.”

Although both stations are located in Justice, Station 32 on Archer Avenue used to house the Justice Fire Department.

Another department in Division 24 has been added to the site; Dolton, with two stations. Apparatus images were provided by Dennis McGuire, Jr. and the station photos are from Karl Klotz. Dolton has 35 full-time firefighters and several suppression rigs. They contract EMS from Bud’s Ambulance Service. The frontline engines are from Sutphen as is one of the two aerial devices. Dolton has a beautiful backup engine built by Pirsch on a CF Mack chassis.

The largest fire department in McHenry County Division 5 is the McHenry Township FIre Protection District. With over 150 part-time firefighters running out of four stations, this department responded to 4,369 calls for service in 2009 in a district that is roughly 56 square miles. Their fleet of suppression equipment is 99% Pierce with the one exception being a 1986 S&S tanker running out of Station 2. The newest additions are a pair of twin 2009 Pierce Velocity engines and a 2010 Ford F350/Medtec Type I ambulance. Prior to the purchase of these Velocity units, all McHenry Township engines were on Pierce Lance chassis. They have two squad units; one Pierce Arrow and one Pierce Saber.
