Buffalo Grove house fire 2-3-11

At dusk on Thursday, Buffalo Grove received a call forsmoke in the house at 21 Chestnut Terrace. Upon arrival, the front of the house was completely obscured by smoke for the first companies and the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for a working house fire. Firefighters found fire in a second floor bedroom with extension into the attic before making a quick hit on it. Access to the rear of the house was significantly hampered by four and five-foot snow drifts making it impassable. Family members reported the fire but there were no injuries. Buffalo Grove was assisted by Arlington Heights, Countryside, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Deerfield. Buffalo Grove firefighters clearing fire hydrants throughout the village on Thursday had been on the street earlier in the day.

Countryside responds to post blizzard fire 2-3-11

On Thursday, the Countryside Fire Protection District responded for a reported fire in the wall at a four-unit, two-story, townhouse at 327 Cherry Valley Road in Vernon Hills. The fire, which apparently started at the hands of a handyman repairing some plumbing, was contained in short order. Companies had to contend with deep snow around the building though the street had been cleared to both curbs. Chief officers arriving first cleared snow from the hydrant located directly in front of the building. Libertyville, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Mundelein assisted with mutual aid.

Lake Zurich 2nd alarm fire

The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire around 1AM this morning at 1025 Old McHenry Road. This address is perhaps 100 yards from their #3 fire station at 1075 Old McHenry Road. The first company found heavy fire on the east side of the 2-story building. The alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm for additional manpower.  Later,  the fire was upgraded to a 2nd alarm for still more manpower to assist with the extensive overhaul that was required at this old house which had been remodeled multiple times. Securing a positive water supply was delayed slightly when the first hydrant the engine tried malfunctioned.
