One-car MVA in Wheeling, 4-2-18

Wheeling and Prospect Heights firefighters were sent to 100 E. Palatine Road Monday afternoon for a reported crash. This address is on the westbound Palatine frontage road east of the railroad tracks. Upon arrival, firefighters were directed to a car that had left the roadway and traveled down an embankment coming to rest underneath the railroad bridge. The car’s sole occupant, with apparently non life-threatening injures, was unable to get out. After forcing open a door, the patient was carried up the embankment on a backboard and transported to an area hospital. The car was then winched back up onto the road. Train traffic was halted in the area for roughly 30 minutes while firefighters and then tow operators worked beneath the rail bridge.

Wheeling crash with rescue 8/8/16

Wheeling firefighters along with mutual aid companies from several surrounding towns were sent to the area of 9930 Capitol Drive on Monday afternoon for a reported car into a pond with people trapped. Wheeling Chief 2400 was the first on the scene advising that a car was perched over a concrete retaining wall with at least one occupant inside. Along with the divers and boats that were en route, an urgent request was made for a tow truck to secure the car so firefighters could retrieve the driver.

Several of the incoming units were returned after the nature of the incident was known and work began to secure the SUV and then remove the driver, who proved to be the only occupant.

Prospect Heights MVA with entrapment 11-7-13

This from Larry Shapiro:

Prospect Heights had a three ambulance response to an MVA on Schoenbeck Road at Willow Road just before 6PM. They found a Nissan SUV on it’s side with two unbelted occupants precariously positioned inside. They removed the windshield and the rear tailgate to facilitate removal of the victims. Two were transported and the third ambulance was returned.

I arrived a bit late, just as they had finished removing the 2nd patient. Here are some shots of the scene and there are more on my site HERE.
