Naperville, in Division 16, currently has 10 stations. As can be imagined, it’s a large task to accumulate all of the information and photos to post the department at once. With that in mind, Andrew Hilk, Bill Friedrich, and Larry Shapiro are working toward that end. As of now, all 10 stations have pages on the site with placeholders for the assigned apparatus. Roughly a third of the apparatus photos have been posted but several vehicles have been reassigned and have not been photographed with their most recent numbering. In addition, there are new deliveries to keep up with as several fleet updates have occurred in the last year. Hopefully, it won’t be long before the entire department is portrayed to reflect complete accuracy.

Lake County MABAS Division 4 has undergone a division wide systematic renumbering of stations and also the apparatus. This listing showing revised station numbering was forwarded by Bill Friedrich:
The county which consists of 26 fire departments and/or fire districts is divided into 4 quadrants. Each quad is represented by the first digit in the new numbering system. The second digit now represents the department within that quad and the final digit represents the station number for that particular department.

The Buffalo Grove, Long Grove and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Departments/Districts have previously renumbered their stations in conjunction with Northwest Central Dispatch (Buffalo Grove) or RED Center (Long Grove and Lincolnshire Riverwoods) and a re subsequently not participating in the new Lake County numbering system.
The Downer Grove Fire Department has been added to Division 16. Thanks to Bill Friedrich, all four stations (that’s 1,2,3 & 5 … there isn’t a #4 currently) are on the site with the exception of a few reserve rigs. Their fleet is ‘Chicago-style’ black over red and is predominantly made up of Pierce and Medtec units.
Retired Downers Grove Battalion Chief Bill Friedrich is well known to many area fire departments because of his years of documenting fire apparatus throughout Illinois. In order to remain knowledgeable about new apparatus, Bill keeps track of apparatus that has been ordered by area fire departments and the subsequent deliveries. He has recently shared with us his current compilation which is broken down by truck manufacturer. Although he watches the entire state, we will list here the Northern Illinois rigs whose departments will be listed on this site.
