Car into a pond in Deerfield 1-1-12

Deerfield Fire responded to a car into a pond last night in the 500 block of Lake-Cook Road. The first arriving police officer was able to step onto the car’s roof, break out the window and assist the driver in getting out of the car. The office sustained cuts to his hand freeing the driver. Apparently, units on the scene were unclear about whether or not there were any other occupants in the car based on what the driver was able to tell them, so a request for divers was initiated.

Highland Park, Northbrook, Lake Forest and Lincolnshire responded with divers who ascertained that there where no other occupants inside the car. The divers hooked the car for the towing company to make the removal.

Tim Olk responded to the incident and submitted several images of the scene.

Prospect Heights and Division 3 divers search pond for kids 7-6-11

Shortly after 3PM on Weddnesday, Prospect Heights received a 9-1-1 call from a motorist who claimed to see two children in a pond near the Prospect Heights Public Works building in the 500 block of Piper Lane. Police arrived and found an unattended bicycle and no children in the area. Prospect Heights divers and firefighters responded, and upon seeing no children in the area requested a response from all on-duty MABAS Division 3 divers and neighboring mutual-aid divers so that the murky pond could be checked in the event that their were missing children.

Several divers went into the water as did a boat with side-scan Kongsberg sonar capable of mapping the pond floor. There was some question as to exactly what was seen by the 9-1-1 caller, and after searching the pond for an hour and examining several images mapped by the sonar, the searches were terminated.

Fox River Grove FPD updates

The pages representing the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District in MABAS Division 5 have been updated to include their newest ambulance, the Dive Rescue Unit, and an updated image of their station.

Fox River Grove Fire Protection District Horton ambulance

Most if not all of the ambulances in McHenry County carry a unit number which designates the department, and the specific unit number. This generally means that the unit number itself won’t be very high since few departments have more than three stations. This newest ambulance though for Fox River Grove carries a unique number with a special meaning. The number 657 which is adorned with a halo and the wings of an angel, is dedicated to the seven children (Jeffrey J. Clark, Susanna Guzman, Michael B. Hoffman, Stephanie Fulham, Joseph A. Kalte, Shawn P. Robinson and Tiffany Schneider) who tragically lost their lives when a school bus was hit by a commuter train at the rail crossing half a block from the fire station in 1995.

Fox River Grove FPD ambulance dedication

The halo and angel wings surrounding the number '7' represents a dedication to the memory of 7 children between the ages of 14 and 18, who were killed at the railroad crossing near the fire station in 1995.
