Kenosha Fire Department news

Excerpts from the kenoshanews.com:

Kenosha Fire Chief Charles Leipzig, 54, who has served as chief the past four years and started as a firefighter in the city at 23, officially will retire effective Dec. 31. The Kenosha Police and Fire Commission at Tuesday morning’s meeting accepted a number of retirements, including Leipzig’s.

In keeping with regular practice, the Kenosha mayor is expected to appoint Deputy Chief Chris Bigley as the interim chief as of Jan. 1. The Police and Fire Commission will discuss its next steps toward finding a permanent replacement at its Dec. 15 meeting.

As for Leipzig, he plans to keep his family in Kenosha and hopes to not only spend time with them, but also to give back in a number of volunteer capacities.

Excerpts from wgtd.org:

Kenosha Fire Chief Charles Leipzig, 54, announced his retirement, effective at the end of the year. He was appointed to the position by the Police and Fire Commission four years ago.

He’ll best be known for two things–commanding the department during the spate of arson fires that broke out during the civil unrest tied to protests over the police shooting of Jacob Blake. He also guided the consolidation of two fire houses in a project that included construction of a more centrally-located station at 52nd St. and 22nd Ave.

Leipzig said his plan had always been to retire between 53 and 55 in order to spend more time with his family. He said he plans to remain in the community and spend part of his time serving as a volunteer.
