An interesting historical note about the 3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 6-1-17, there was a 2-11 Alarm fire in the same building on April 24, 1983. We have not found any of our contributors that has photos of that fire.

Thursday morning (at the peak of morning rush hour) 2945 Milwaukee Ave. Fire was in a 2-story furniture store, with the top floor completely closed to the outside by brick veneer. Heavy fire throughout, burned through and collapsed what I believe was a bowstring truss roof. Photo conditions were tough as there were areas of bright sun and deep shade. Finally got to oberve squad 2’s new “snorkel” fully extended and in operation as well as some tower ladder operations and the spare Snorkel. Also interesting to see Engine 69 hooked up to a hydrant in front of Engine 91’s former quarters at 3000 N Elbridge very close to the rear of the fire building. Here is a sample of the hundreds of images, all can be seen plus the video here:Steve

Took a ride to the 4300 block of Henderson for a fire in a small house described as hoarder conditions. The house was on a dead-end street to a railroad embankment. The truck arrived first I believe so both engines backed into the block to lead out, eventually both using the same hydrant. 91 hooked up to 7’s gate valve. A massive tree prevented any use of a tower or aerial ladder making roof access by ground ladder only. A tough job for all concerned but carried out in short order.
Chicago firefighters were called to a laundromat at 5130 W. Fullerton Avenue after 2AM Monday morning (4/4/16) and found heavy fire in a one-story, 60×100, commercial building with a bow-string truss roof. The building had no immediate exposures with parking lots on either side. After venting the roof, companies went defensive with Tower Ladder 14 setup to the west and Squad 2A to the east. There was a special call for an additional tower ladder which brought Tower Ladder 23 to the front of the building. Two multi-versals and the three elevated master streams inundated the building with water for two hours.
Heavy fire vented out the front of the building burning a car parked at the curb. The utility company was called to shut off gas to the building as a gas fed fire burned freely near the front.
Steve Redick and Larry Shapiro were at the scene.
