Box Alarm in Des Plaines, 2-14-21

Generator fire at the Rivers Casino

Larry Shapiro photo

Excerpts from the DailyHerald.com:

No injuries were reported from a fire that began shortly after 10 p.m. in the cooking ventilation system and rooftop exhaust fans of Hugo’s Frog Bar in the Rivers Casino. The fire appears to have been sparked when grease that had accumulated in the hood and duct system ignited. The Des Plaines Fire Department reported the fire under control and extinguished just after 11 p.m. Fire damage was isolated to the kitchen hood and duct and a portion of the roof, and there was slight water damage elsewhere.

One of the evacuated patrons requested medical assistance and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with a nonlife-threatening issue.

While the casino reopened early Monday, Hugo’s remained closed.

Under the state’s COVID-19 rules, casinos can maintain normal operating hours, which for Rivers Casino means they are open 24 hours a day, but are only allowed 50% of total capacity.

Still and Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 10-13-20

This from Chi-Town Fire Photos:

Just before midnight, E76 landed on scene with heavy fire in the rear of a 3-story apartment building @ 1306-08 N Kildare Ave. BN18 boxed the fire as he and his members encountered heavy fire in the rear wood porches and several apartments on the second and third floors. SQ2’s Snorkel worked an elevated master stream as the fire reportedly burned through the roof. Companies made quick work of a seemingly large amount of fire.

House fire in Park Ridge, 2-25-20

This from Steve Redick:

Took this job in Tuesday afternoon. I arrived about 10 minutes in and it was all but over. It appears they had quite a volume of fire but were able to knock it down very quickly. If you notice the Niles engine and tower ladder were set up for master stream operations but not used. The first-in Park Ridge quint was heavily damaged in a previous fire and I believe the ladder is out of service. I think it’s running without the aerial being used.

Excerpts from Fox6now.com:

Firefighters and police officers on Tuesday, January 19th were called out shortly after 11:30 a.m to a fire with occupants trapped inside at a home near South and Elm Streets in the City of Lake Geneva.

The home was fully engulfed when police and firefighters arrived at the scene, but four people who were downstairs were able to get out of the home safely.

Two adults with a baby who were upstairs crawled out onto the roof of the home. They were able to toss the baby to a police officer, while a neighbor found a ladder to help the adults down from the roof, but the ladder collapsed and a woman fell.

Historic Chicago fire photos, 4-22-78

This from Steve Redick:

4-22-78, a 2-11 at 46pl and Lasalle Ave. I processed these in my own darkroom, shot on TRI-X. I was riding on Engine 84 that day and we were due on the 2-11 … dropped a 3-inch line into the Snorkel if I remember right. Used a Canon Rangefinder camera
