  Sorry to be break it to you but a lot of departments comparable to Waukegan do the samething. Spots are done by seniority, the union strong holding the city isn’t that at all, it’s called a working relationship with the city and management. 20 runs a day on the ambulance causing burn out but being able to get off the ambulance after 3-5 years VS. Spending 20 years on the ambulance, which is worse?

  Not miserable, just fed up about the nonsense that goes on within that dept. The political bull from the city, and administration, that strong hold that the union has on the department, how the guys on the dept who are in cliques treat other members.

  How the Dept and union came up with the bright idea of staffing the rigs permanently based on years on the job, causing the ambulances who run 20 calls a day to be staffed all the time by the same guys with less then 15 years on the job causing them to burn out and hate their dept. also in turn causing the department to waste village money paying all these guys to keep there paramedic licenses when they don’t use them.

  OMG the I run 11,000 calls a year ,UNION YESS Brother, Make the new guys run on the ambulance only until they have 15 years on the Dept causing burn out, Waukegan Fire Department Purchased a Rig that is Black over Red breaking a tradition.. WOW!!!
