Palatine’s new Enforcer engine, which was assigned to Engine 83 was on scene, seen about 10 seconds into this video. It was delivered on 12/14, so this was one of the first days it was in service.
Quint 85 was in service and the only aerial Palatine had manned for the fire. Given that there is now an Engine 83, I’d guess that the 2009 Impel quint is now Palatine’s reserve quint, and they’re getting rid of the 2004 Enforcer quint. Tower 85’s 2013 Spartan must’ve been out of service for some reason, which had them running the 2009 Impel as their reserve.
Interestingly, Quint 85 was dispatched on the Code 3, and Quint 83 on the Code 4, but they then noted that Quint 85 was the only aerial in town and got Arlington Height’s Tower 1 as a replacement. I guess they didn’t take Quint 83 out of service when they put Engine 83 into service, which kind of makes me wonder if Engine 83’s first day in service was 12/23 and they simply hadn’t gotten around to it when the fire was dispatched.

Excellent job to all of the companies on the scene that busted their asses with the forgotten art of aggressive interior firefighting!!! Wasn’t there, but from the narrative and photos it seemed well coordinated with priorities and tactics. As a South-sider, can anyone tell me what additional companies are on the Box Alarm assessment in comparison to a Code 4?
